VP1608F is a multi-segment, dual channel sound playback
chip which uses external EPROM for data storage. The chip contains two DACs and can access up to 64 sound segments of different length per channel. Each segment is controlled by a 6-bit binay code. Memory addressing is handled
by the chip itself. No microprocessor control is needed. Simple logic pulses are used to start/stop the playback operation. A basic design can be constructed with the chip and a few more components.
VP1608F employs the
Continuously Variable Slope Delta (CVSD) compression technique with variable sampling rates from 24 to 128 Kbps. Samping clock can be generated internally with a simple R/C network, or obtained from an external clock. Operated
with a single 5V supply, VP1608F is a low power chip suitable for battery operated applications.
For VP1608F based designs, VP880 QuikVoice Development System must be used for sound development. VP880 is a computer based
sound digitization, editing and management system. After the sound is developed, it is programmed into EPROM chips with a standard EPROM programmer. Eletech also provides sound development and programming service to customers
who do not want to do it themselves.
Applications
